Overview
GovernHQ is a real-time platform for managing autonomous AI agents through identity verification, audit trails, compliance monitoring, and emergency shutdown capabilities. I worked as a Product Designer Intern in a cross-functional team (PM, engineering, design) to create the product from 0→1 within 11 weeks.
Problem
When I joined the project, our early design explorations leaned heavily into a futuristic, neon aesthetic to reflect the cutting-edge nature of AI. However, this direction quickly surfaced a key constraint—while visually compelling, it wasn’t feasible to build given the engineering complexity of the core AI systems and time limitations.
The challenge became clear: How do we translate complex, opaque system behavior into interfaces users can understand and act on WHILE staying grounded in what can realistically be built?
Process
We shifted from a purely visual-first approach to a systems-thinking mindset, focusing on clarity, usability, and scalability. Together with the team, we defined information architecture, core user flows, and system feedback
A key part of my process was leveraging AI-powered design tools (such as Figma Make, v0, and Magic Patterns) to accelerate exploration and iteration. Rather than replacing design thinking, these tools allowed us to:
- Rapidly prototype and test multiple interface directions
- Translate design ideas into code-backed components, reducing ambiguity in developer handoff
- Align more closely with engineering constraints early in the process
This significantly improved collaboration across disciplines—helping us move faster while ensuring designs remained technically feasible.
Solution
The final design for GovernHQ is a streamlined, intuitive command center that surfaces critical information without overwhelming the user.
We focused on:
- Clear system visibility: simplifying complex AI behaviors into digestible dashboards and status indicators
- Actionable control: enabling users to quickly intervene through features like agent management and emergency shutdown
- Scalable design patterns: building a foundation that could evolve alongside the product
The visual design shifted to a more minimal, structured aesthetic, balancing clarity and functionality while still maintaining a sense of modernity appropriate for an AI product.
Impact
Within a short 11-week timeframe, our team successfully brought a complex, 0→1 AI product to life through strong cross-functional collaboration and rapid iteration.
My contributions helped:
- Improve design–engineering alignment through AI-assisted prototyping
- Reduce iteration cycles and increased feasibility of shipped designs
- Deliver a cohesive, user-centered interface grounded in real-world constraints
Design Reflection
This experience reinforced my belief that great product design isn’t just about visuals. It’s about navigating ambiguity, aligning teams, and making complex systems usable.
Additionally, using AI tools in my workflow didn’t replace core design skills—it amplified them. By reducing friction in execution, I was able to focus more deeply on problem framing, system design, and user experience, ultimately strengthening both the design process and the final product.
